You can't make these things up, not even if you try.
A fish called the pacu has been making headlines recently because of warnings to fishermen from Danish fish experts that the toothy swimmer is known for biting off testicles, causing men everywhere to cringe in horror and vow never to go swimming ever again.
I can think of a few publishing/romance blogs that would make this fish their mascot.
However, it's all a hype after looking into it more museum experts claim the piece was meant to be tongue-in-cheek...pardon the cliche.
Gay Russian Flees to Canada
Here's a compelling story, that I think might be a sign of the times and will portend the future of many LGBT Russians if something isn't done with the new anti-gay laws they've passed.
A gay man from Russia is now living in Vancouver in a homeless shelter, seeking safety from the things that have been happening to gays in Russia. And from the way this article reads, I don't think we're getting the entire story of how the hetero community in Russia is reacting to the anti-gay laws.
"I feel that I'm protected. I feel that I can be myself. I don't have be worried about violence," Zhuravlev told CBC News.
"It is considered an honour for a Russian to harm or even kill a gay person. They will be honoured by society and tell everyone, 'I killed a gay person.' Everyone basically will be proud of that."
This part surprises me a little about the upcoming Olympics:
In recent weeks, questions have been raised about how best to keep athletes and fans who support gay rights safe at the Sochi Olympics this winter. Some have called for a boycott of the Games to protest Russia's anti-gay laws, while others have suggested the Olympics be moved to Vancouver.
The thing I don't get is why anyone would go to, or support, a country that treats any group of people this way. And I think if you're willing to actually go to Russia under these circumstances, you're on your own.
As a side note, a friend from Lazybeagleentertainment.com posted a note on facebook earlier today supporting Russian LGBT authors. And asking us to treat these authors with respect. I completely agree with that. The last thing the LGBT people in Russia need is criticism from others.
Win FREE Stuff at Allromance
They are having an event over at ARe this month, that's a "Shifter Challenge." I'm not actually sure if this is for readers or authors, because the prizes are listed as "Author Prize." But maybe that means the author is giving the prize? In any event, it's worth checking if you're into that sort of thing.
Here is a list of excellent prizes. They look very appealing, and I wish I were a bigger shifter fan:
We talk a lot about supporting brick and mortar bookstores, even though many think they are doomed. But we rarely ever talk about excellent web sites and online businesses like Allromanceebooks.com that are competing with giants like Amazon all the time. It's nice to support the little guys, too. I've always had an excellent shopping experience at ARe.
